Kaufman County Master Gardeners hosted “Five Seasons on the Porch” at the First Baptist Church of Kaufman on Saturday, February 22, 2020. Jacob Eickstead  of the Texas Department of Transportation gave a wonderful presentation about our state’s program to increase the number of native grasses and wildflowers along our roadways. His pictures clearly showed the beauty of our native plants, and the “Grass, Weed, and WildfloweGuide ” he provided will be a valuable reference for a long time. (If you couldn’t attend, you can find the pdf file online free to download.)

The film, “Five Seasons: The Gardens of Piet Oudolf,” was inspirational, with its exquisite examples of the year-round beauty that can be created in gardens. It reiterated Eickstead’s message that beauty need not be regimented; a bit of wildness nourishes us all. The centerpieces, created by Master Gardeners from grasses cut from our demonstration garden, were an excellent example of that beauty.
