Capacity Crowd Attends Fall Vegetable Garden Program

Over 100 people attended Kaufman County Master Gardeners’ Fall Vegetable Garden program, held on July 24, 2010 at the Grace Fellowship Baptist Church in Oak Grove. Workshop topics included soil preparation, garden care and maintenance and the best vegetable varieties for our area. Kimberly Schofield, Program Specialist-Urban IPM from the Texas AgriLife Urban Solutions Center in Dallas, spoke on “Integrated Pest Management for Vegetable Gardens.” Katie M. Phillips, Kaufman County Extension Agent, FCS, talked about“Drying Foods at Home Safely – Fruits, Vegetables & Herbs.” There were displays of square foot gardening and beneficial insects, as well as a seed sale and a display of sponsors of the 2010 Horticultural calendar. An guided tour of the Garden Learning Center was available at the end of the workshop
