Gardening in Fall and Winter Is Subject of Master Gardeners' 2015 Fall Seminar

On Saturday, September 12, 2015, Kaufman County Master Gardeners held their 2015 Fall Seminar, :Gardening in Fall & Winter,” at Central Baptist Church in Crandall.
Kaufman County Master Gardener and Vegetable Specialist Jim Burt discussed how to preparing your soil, recommended specific varieties of vegetables do well in our area in the fall, and provided a chart of appropriate planting dates. By popular request, he also spoke specifically about planting and maintaining asparagus.
Hunt County Master Gardener Pat Abramson explained which herbs do best in winter and brought samples of many of them for participants to see and smell. Ms. Abramson also talked about how to maintain your herb garden..
Kaufman County Master Gardener Dianne Kaufman explained how she uses raised beds, row covers and other techniques to have fresh vegetables through much of the winter. She showed many examples from her own garden. Information on building cold frames was also be available.
