KC Master Gardeners Present Beekeeping and Rain Water Harvesting at Tractor Show

Kaufman County Master Gardeners presented workshops on beekeeping and rain water harvesting and drip irrigation to a group of about 25 at the Antique Tractor and Small Engine Club event on June 8, 2013 at Gill Park in Terrell. “Getting Started With Bees” with Master Gardener Jim Burt covered the basics of bee keeping, including how to get started, how to install a package of bees and how to start with a nucleus hive . The Rainwater Harvesting Workshop, conducted by Master Gardener Brad Ackerman, covered basics of rainwater harvesting, how to construct your own rain barrel and the basics of drip irrigation.

Mark your calendar for July 20, when KC Master Gardeners will present their “Fall Vegetable Workshop” from 9 to noon at the Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church in Kaufman. Topics will include varieties of vegetables suitable for our area, planting dates, soil preparation, vermiculture (composting with worms), cooking with herbs and canning your harvest.
